Ramute Regina Mitchell passed away peacefully on December 10, 2022. Ramute was born on November 9, 1936 in Marijampole, Lithuania. She immigrated to the United States in 1949 and settled in Omaha, Nebraska with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juozas and Jadwyga Sakalas and her beloved son Anthony Charles Mitchell.
Ramute Mitchell is survived by her husband of 55 years, Fred Mitchell. Together they raised three sons, and she is survived by her two sons, Joseph Mitchell (Elvira), and Michael Mitchell (Diane). Ramute is survived by Nine Grandchildren: Jennifer Wehrmeyer, Freddy J. Mitchell, Ted Mitchell, Fred M. Mitchell, Alexander Mitchell, Marlo Mitchell, Natalie Mitchell, Madison Mitchell, Cole Mitchell and Six Great Grandchildren. Ramute attended Omaha South High School and graduated in 1954. She worked at Western Electric from 1964 to 1989. While working at Western Electric she met her husband, Fred. Ramute and her sister Ausrele Sakalas from Lemont, Illinois was very active in the Lithuanian Community. Ramute was active in the St. Anthony’s Catholic church in South Omaha which served a large majority of Lithuanian immigrants before closing in 2014. Ramute enjoyed singing in the church choir and was an avid reader. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. Ramute and Fred moved to Harker Heights, Texas in May, 2022 to be near family. Ramute retired from the Omaha Works on 7/13/1989 with 25 years of service.
