James Walter Goodhard Nov 2024
Jim, age 88, of Omaha, NE, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at home.
Born on March 22, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska, Jim attended Elkhorn Public Schools and graduated from Elkhorn High in 1954. After a year of working as a carpenter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1955. During his service, Jim married the love of his life, Janet Stahl, in July 1955. Together, they raised four daughters: Sheri, Jennie, Pam, and Lisa.
After his time in the Army, Jim spent 39 years working at Western Electric, retiring in the late 1990s. Following their retirement, Jim and Janet moved to Bella Vista, AR., where they spent 12 wonderful years. Jim was passionate about golf, often seen driving around in his red golf cart, and he enjoyed fishing and "hawking" for lost golf balls.
In 2008, Jim and Janet returned to Omaha to be closer to their children and grandchildren, where Jim cherished spending time with his family above all else, and whether it was lending a helping hand with a home project or spending time with his loved ones, he was always there for those who mattered most. Jim was an avid sports fan. His teams were the Creighton Blue Jays, Nebraska Corn Huskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He could always be found cheering them on from his recliner. His devotion to his family was a constant in his life, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Pam. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Janet; his daughters, Sheri (Mac), Jennie (Dan), and Lisa (Scott); his 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL MASS: Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10:30am, with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service, all at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church (16701 S. St.)
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Alliance in Omaha, NE.
